Helmke Library
At our next stop, you’ll want to get lost — in a book, that is. As northeast Indiana’s premier academic library, Helmke Library holds more than 400,000 print volumes, a vast number of electronic books, and more than 40,000 print and electronic periodical titles. The move into Helmke Library is one of the most memorable events in IPFW history. During the Book Walk of 1972, students, employees, and community groups carried books from Kettler Hall to the new building. On the first day, 85,000 books were moved, and 11,000 trips were made by volunteers who walked a total of 5,500 miles. During 2011–2012, Helmke Library is transforming the entire second floor into the IPFW Learning Commons. This new collaboration among the library, writing center, technology services, and other partners will be a centrally located place and space designed to increase your success in finding, evaluating, and using information.
